چکیده

Tabling in logic programming has been used to eliminate redundant computation and also to stop infinite loop. In this paper we add the third usage of tabling, i.e. to make infinite computation possible for probabilistic logic programs. Using PRISM, a logic-based probabilistic modeling language with a tabling mechanism, we generalize prefix probability computation for PCFGs to probabilistic logic programs. Given a top-goal, we search for all SLD proofs by tabled search regardless of whether they contain loop or not. We then convert them to a set of linear probability equations and solve them by matrix operation. The solution gives us the probability of the topgoal, which, in nature, is an infinite sum of probabilities. Our generalized approach to prefix probability computation through tabling opens a way to logic-based probabilistic modeling of cyclic dependencies. 1998 ACM Subject Classification D.3.3 Language Constructs and Features

Infinite probability computation by cyclic explanation graphs

Tabling in logic programming has been used to eliminate redundant computation and also to stop infinite loop. In this paper we investigate another possibility of tabling, i.e. to compute an infinite sum of probabilities for probabilistic logic programs. Using PRISM, a logic-based probabilistic modeling language with a tabling mechanism, we generalize prefix probability computation for probabili...

Linear tabulated resolution based on Prolog control strategy

Infinite loops and redundant computations are long recognized open problems in Prolog. Two ways have been explored to resolve these problems: loop checking and tabling. Loop checking can cut infinite loops, but it cannot be both sound and complete even for function-free logic programs. Tabling seems to be an effective way to resolve infinite loops and redundant computations. However, existing t...

Enhancing global SLS-resolution with loop cutting and tabling mechanisms

Global SLS-resolution is a well-known procedural semantics for top-down computation of queries under the well-founded model. It inherits from SLDNF-resolution the linearity property of derivations, which makes it easy and efficient to implement using a simple stack-based memory structure. However, like SLDNF-resolution it suffers from the problem of infinite loops and redundant computations. To...

On Applying Or-Parallelism and Tabling to Logic Programs

Logic Programming languages, such as Prolog, provide a high-level, declarative approach to programming. Logic Programming offers great potential for implicit parallelism, thus allowing parallel systems to often reduce a program’s execution time without programmer intervention. We believe that for complex applications that take several hours, if not days, to return an answer, even limited speedu...

An Efficient Implementation of Linear Tabling Based on Dynamic Reordering of Alternatives

Tabling is a technique of resolution that overcomes some limitations of traditional Prolog systems in dealing with recursion and redundant sub-computations. We can distinguish two main categories of tabling mechanisms: suspension-based tabling and linear tabling. In suspension-based tabling, a tabled evaluation can be seen as a sequence of sub-computations that suspend and later resume. Linear ...
